About the event
How can you tell a Saint-Julien from a Napa Meritage…or a Super-Tuscan?
Join us for a Zoom Party tasting to sharpen and test your tasting acumen and knowledge of global styles. Master of Wine Roger Bohmrich will guide us in this tantalizing (and educational) challenge. We’ll taste 6 wines, divided into pairs--one white pair and two red pairs.
Each pair will partner a classic Bordeaux from a top classification with an equally esteemed look-alike from a leading region elsewhere in the world. Roger will give us pointers to differentiate one wine from the other…how can you distinguish the Bordeaux original from, say, a South African counterpart?
Roger has selected the following 6 wines for us to taste in pairs, while he guides us in the art of differentiating a classic Bordeaux from its counterpart:
WHITE
Château Carbonnieux 2020, Pessac-Léognan
DeLille Cellars Chaleur Blanc 2021, Columbia Valley, Washington
RED
Pair #1
Glenelly Estate “Lady May” 2016, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Château Branaire Ducru 2016, Saint-Julien
Pair #2
Dominus Estate Napanook Vineyard 2019, Napa Valley
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2019, Pauillac
To ensure that everyone has the same wine, the final selection of wines will depend on the number of participants and availability at the time of order. Therefore, we may be required to substitute similar quality wines, as identified by Roger.
This will be a combination in-person and video conference event. The San Diego chapter's participating Commandeurs will meet in-person at the Del Mar Law Offices of Sheppard Mullin. Up to 20 Commandeurs can be accommodated in the video conferencing board room that our Caviste John Tishler has reserved. We will be connected to Roger and other participating chapters via video conferencing.
RSVP DEADLINE is this Saturday, September 9, so that we have some time to determine the number of clusters and locations before the September 11 registration and group ticket deadline.
